West Indies vs Pakistan 1st Test: Bad Light Brings an Early End to Day One of Tarouba Test

West Indies ended the first day of the opening test on 194-3 after bad light brought play to an early end at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Kavem Hodge remained the star player for the Caribbean team, as he remained unbeaten after scoring a fine 83.

West Indies had reached 127-3 by the time the final session began after 43 overs. Hodge and Shai Hope then continued to put Pakistan under pressure, taking their fourth-wicket partnership past 50 runs and pushing the hosts beyond 150.

Pakistan were unable to finish the session as fading light once again stopped play. The players left the field, and after a short wait, the umpires decided that conditions were not good enough for the match to continue.

Talking about the start of the match, West Indies chose to bat first but found it hard to score against Pakistan's accurate bowling. Openers Brandon King and Tagenarine Chanderpaul managed only 13 runs together before Pakistan made the first breakthrough.

Kavem Hodge then joined Chanderpaul at the crease, but West Indies continued to struggle for runs. The pair added only 10 runs from 35 balls for the second wicket before rain stopped play.

West Indies resumed their innings at 23-1 after the lunch break. Kavem Hodge then took charge and played a patient innings, reaching his fourth test half-century in a composed style.

Hodge and Tagenarine Chanderpaul put together a 51-run partnership for the second wicket before Aamer Jamal dismissed the latter on 21 runs.

Mohammad Abbas then picked up his second wicket by dismissing Amir Jangoo, who hit two fours and a six during his innings.

The second session ended after 43 overs, with Abbas bowling the final over before the break. West Indies were 127-3 at that stage, with Kavem Hodge unbeaten on 56 and Shai Hope on 11 not out from 25 deliveries.

Hodge and Hope continued to bat well in the final session and kept Pakistan's bowlers waiting for another breakthrough. However, rain and bad light eventually brought the first day's play to an early end.
