Rutherford Sparks West Indies Recovery as Rashid Hits 400 Milestone Before Drinks Break

Rutherford Sparks West Indies Recovery as Rashid Hits 400 Milestone Before Drinks Break

After a catastrophic start that saw the top-order gutted by Jofra Archer and Sam Curran, the Caribbean outfit clawed its way back into the contest. The recovery was spearheaded by a gritty Roston Chase, whose 34-run resistance ended just before the break when he became Adil Rashid’s 400th T20 victim, trapped plumb in front.

However, the momentum shifted back to the batting side in the last three overs. Sherfane Rutherford has taken on the mantle of the aggressor, shifting gears to reach an unbeaten 41 off 25 balls, including four towering maximums that have kept the Mumbai crowd on their feet. Alongside him, skipper Rovman Powell (14*) has looked composed, rotating strike effectively to maintain a healthy 9.25 run rate.

England’s captain Harry Brook will be the happier of the two leaders, having kept the run flow largely in check through Jamie Overton and Rashid, but he will be wary of the firepower the West Indies still possess in the shed.

With six overs remaining and the "Death Over" specialists warming up, the West Indies are well-positioned to launch toward a 180+ total, while England hunt for the scalp of Rutherford to break this dangerous 43-run partnership.
