West Indies Tour of India 2026 Schedule, Squads and Key Developments

The West Indies will tour India for a white-ball series beginning September 27, 2026. The tour consists of three ODIs followed by five T20Is, with matches scheduled across eight cities.

The opening ODI will be played at the Sports Hub International Cricket Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. The ODI leg will then move to Guwahati and New Chandigarh before the five-match T20I series begins in Lucknow on October 6.

The latest squad announcements have also added several important storylines. India have named Shubman Gill as ODI captain, while Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma return to the ODI setup. Shreyas Iyer will captain India's T20I side. West Indies will be led by Shai Hope in both formats.

The BCCI lists the three ODIs at 2:00 PM India time and the five T20Is at 7:00 PM India time. The Pakistan times above are converted from the official Indian start times.

India Announce ODI and T20I Squads

India announced separate squads for the ODI and T20I legs on September 16.

Shubman Gill will captain the ODI side, with KL Rahul named vice-captain. The ODI squad includes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Return for ODIs

One of the main developments ahead of the series is the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to India's ODI squad.

Both senior batters were selected for the three-match series against West Indies, while Shubman Gill remains India's ODI captain.

Nitish Kumar Reddy was also moved from India's Asian Games squad into the ODI squad for the West Indies series.

West Indies Name Shai Hope as Captain

Shai Hope will captain West Indies in both the ODI and T20I series against India. John Campbell returns to the ODI squad, while Jewel Andrew replaces the injured Ackeem Auguste.

West Indies have added Kamil Pooran to their T20I squad for the India tour after his strong 2026 CPL campaign, where he scored 273 runs at a strike rate of 159.64. Quentin Sampson is also included, while Jason Holder has been rested.

World Cup Qualification Adds Importance to ODI Series

The opening two ODIs have an additional significance for West Indies.

According to Cricket West Indies, the first two matches will bring the automatic qualification cycle for the ICC Men's 50-Over World Cup to a close. West Indies cannot overtake their nearest challengers in the qualification standings regardless of the results and will therefore have to enter the qualification tournament early next year.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said the matches against India will provide an opportunity to improve the ODI side and assess players for important roles ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
