Rutherford, Spinners Lead West Indies to Commanding Win Over England In ICC T20 World Cup 2026

West Indies defeated England in a convincing fashion in the latest ICC T20 World Cup 2026 clash. Led by the brilliance of spinners, West Indies defended a big total of 196 in the second innings to register a second straight victory in the tournament.

Batting first, West Indies didn’t have a great start as they lost both openers quickly in the Powerplay. However, a great counterattack by Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase helped them to steady the innings, as England bowlers failed to contain the pressure afterwards.

Roston Chase then built a solid partnership with Sherfane Rutherford to take the innings forward, as both batters played confidently during the middle overs. After playing a good knock of 34 runs, Chase went back to the pavilion in the 10th over, with Rutherford kept scoring briskly at the other end.

The innings of Sherfane Rutherford completely took the game away from England, as they had no answers to his stunning ball striking. He kept playing strongly until the end, scoring 76 off just 42 balls to help West Indies post a big total of 196 in the first innings.

When England came out to bat, they started the innings strongly, with Phil Salt and Jos Buttler playing big shots in the first six overs. They finished the Powerplay on a high note, but lost the momentum afterwards. The West Indies bowling attack came up with a sharp spell in the middle overs to take quick wickets, building loads of pressure on the England batting lineup.

Sam Curran, who came out to bat at number 6, played positively to take the chase forward, but he didn’t find any support from the other end. As a result, England were bowled out for just 166, handing West Indies a big victory by 30 runs. Sherfane Rutherford was named Player of the Match, as his superb knock in the first innings laid the foundation of victory for West Indies.
