Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed that allrounder Washington Sundar is set to join the national squad in Delhi ahead of the upcoming World Cup matches. He added that Sundar is perfectly fine, and the team is looking forward to his arrival in Delhi.
"Washy [Washington] is joining us in Delhi. He is good, everything is fine." said Suryakumar Yadav after India defeated USA in the T20 World Cup opener.
Talking about Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav said that the ace Indian pacer missed the USA game due to high fever. He is hopeful that Bumrah will get well soon ahead of the next match against Namibia on February 12.
"He was having a high fever because of the weather, like how Abhishek [Sharma] was under the weather. But the rest everything is good." said Indian T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav.
He then described the nerves with which he played an exceptional knock against the USA in the T20 World Cup opener. Suryakumar explained that he backed himself to go till the end when wickets were falling consistently.
"Only I can tell how much pressure I was feeling. But at the same time, I had the belief that I had batted in similar situations. And I have played a lot of cricket in the maidans of Mumbai, so I knew if I bat till the end, I can make a difference.” said Suryakumar Yadav.
The Indian captain then explained that the wicket at Wankhede was slightly different from what they were used to under normal conditions. He added that the batters should also have played more smartly when the surface didn’t allow them to play big shots freely.
"It was a little different wicket from what it is always at the Wankhede. But at the same time, we knew when we woke up in the morning, there was not a lot of sun outside. The curator and the groundsmen tried their best to prepare the best pitch. But some things are not in their control. There was not enough sunlight to have the pitch rolled and watered. But we cannot be brushing everything under the carpet. We could have batted a little better.” added Suryakumar Yadav
