Virat Kohli has broken the long-standing List A record of Sachin Tendulkar while playing against Andhra in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has now become the fastest batter in history to complete 16,000 runs in men's List A cricket. This is a remarkable achievement that showcases why Kohli is still a big force in the 50-overs format.
Talking about the records, Sachin Tendulkar reached the milestone of 16,000 runs in 391 innings, whereas Virat Kohli did it in just 330 innings. In addition, Kohli has now become the fastest batter to reach each block of 1,000 List A runs from 10,000 onwards. This highlights Kohli’s remarkable consistency in List A cricket, as his ability to score runs steadily is simply unmatched.
Both Tendulkar and Kohli lead the List A cricket charts in terms of reaching 16,000 runs in the fewest innings. The other legendary batters behind them are Gordon Greenidge (422 innings), Ricky Ponting (430 innings), and Graham Gooch and Viv Richards (435 innings each).
Virat Kohli is currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a long gap. He last participated in the tournament in 2009–10, when he was still new to international cricket. His decision to feature in the ongoing tournament came after weeks of speculation, signaling to fans that he still intends to play ODI cricket in the near future.
Besides Kohli, Rohit Sharma also made a strong comeback in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by scoring a big century. Playing for Mumbai in the tournament, he smashed 155 runs against Sikkim, including 18 fours and 9 sixes. This outstanding innings helped Mumbai win the match by eight wickets, making their position quite strong on the points table.
By scoring a stunning ton, Rohit Sharma is now at par with the Australian great David Warner in List A cricket. He has now equaled Warner’s record for scoring the most 150-plus runs in List A cricket. Since Rohit is still active in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it is certain that he will go past Warner’s record in the upcoming days.
Given the stellar form of both Rohit and Kohli in List A cricket, Indian fans can look forward to their participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup. They have chosen to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to stay active in the 50-over format, so that their preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup in South Africa remains on track.
