Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s remarkable 171 in the Under-19 Asia Cup opener against UAE Under-19s on Friday saw him narrowly miss out on the India record for the highest score in youth one-dayers. The record, set by Ambati Rayudu with a knock of 177 against England in Taunton in 2002, remains intact as Suryavanshi fell just six runs short.
The young prodigy, who is still under 15, was in sublime form, hitting nine fours and 14 sixes during his 95-ball knock. Unfortunately, his aggressive innings came to an end when he was bowled out attempting a paddle shot in the 33rd over.
Despite his departure, India posted a daunting total of 433/6 after being asked to bat. In reply, the UAE could only muster 199/7, handing India a resounding 234-run victory. For his exceptional performance, Suryavanshi was named Player of the Match.
This is a spectacular performance to the ever-increasing list of terrific performances of Suryavanshi. He had registered an incendiary 144 off 42 balls against the UAE in the Rising Stars Asia Cup. The performance put him as the joint-third fastest Indian to score a century in men's T20 cricket, and he made his century in only 32 deliveries, the joint-sixth fastest in the history of all men's T20.
Suryavanshi will be competing in next month's Under-19 World Cup in Namibia and Zimbabwe. He has already established himself with his explosive batting. Recently, he has hit an unbeaten 108 out of 61 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, becoming the youngest centurion in the history of the trophy.
Suryavanshi has achieved a breakthrough in the year 2025 in the IPL, especially. In his 2025 season, he was the youngest IPL player to score a century, as he made 101 off 38 balls against the Gujarat Titans for his team, the Rajasthan Royals. This resulted in his top-ranked performance in seven matches as an opener, where he scored 252 runs with a great strike rate of 206.55.
Upon his debut in IPL, Suryavanshi went on a tour with India Under-19s to England and Australia. He also attained a quickfire century in the first of the four-day series with Australia off 78 balls. He completed the series as the second-highest run-scorer in India with a total of 133 in three innings, which led India to a 2-0 lead.
Suryavanshi was previously in good form in the one-day series against England Under-19s. He had 355 runs with an outstanding strike rate of 174.01, demonstrating his instinctive ability to bat aggressively.
