Usman Khan Opens Up About His Struggles After Pakistan Snub

Usman Khan Opens Up About His Struggles After Pakistan Snub

Wicket-keeper batter Usman Khan has opened up about the challenges he faced following his exclusion from Pakistan's national side. In a recent interview, Usman revealed that despite the setbacks, he never blamed Pakistan for his struggles. Reflecting on the difficult period, Usman shared the hurtful comments he received after being dropped from the team.

“When I was dropped from the Pakistan team, people told me that I would never make a comeback and that I had already been given enough chances, so I should go back to the UAE,” Usman said, recalling the harsh advice he received.

Usman Takes Responsibility for His Performances

Usman admitted that his inability to perform despite being given numerous opportunities was a significant factor in his exclusion. Rather than placing blame on others, he took full responsibility for not delivering at the highest level.

“But I used to tell people that Pakistan had given me enough chances, it was my fault. It was my mistake that I couldn’t perform. Then I hired a personal trainer and improved my diet and fitness,” Usman explained, highlighting his dedication to turning things around.

Banned by ECB but Making a Comeback

It’s worth noting that Usman’s journey wasn’t without controversy. He was banned by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for violating certain obligations and misrepresenting his intention to play for the UAE. However, he made a remarkable comeback during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9.

Usman had a breakout season, accumulating 430 runs at an impressive average of 107 in seven matches, including two centuries. His stellar performances in the PSL earned him a spot in Pakistan's squad for the home series against New Zealand, and later in the T20 World Cup 2024 team.

Usman's International Struggles and Domestic Success

Despite his success in domestic leagues, Usman’s international career has been a different story. He was dropped from the national team after the 2025 series against New Zealand.

Over his career, Usman has played 110 T20 matches, amassing 2767 runs at a strike rate of 145, including six centuries.

However, his international numbers tell a different tale, with just 474 runs from 38 T20Is at a strike rate of 121, reflecting the challenges he faced on the international stage.
