USA Captain Monank Patel Thinks Match Against Pakistan Was Dragged

USA captain and star-performer Monank Patel feels the match against Pakistan should have finished in regular time.

Despite scoring a historic win against an experienced Pakistan team, the captain of the debuting USA team feels that their performance could have been better in last night’s nail-biting clash.

USA won the toss and chose to field first. Pakistan posted a meager total of 159, thanks to Shadab’s 40 off 25 balls and Shaheen’s 23* off 16 balls.

Chasing 160, USA looked super comfortable with 9 wickets in hand and a controllable run-rate. It looked like Pakistan had lost the game at this point.

They needed 56 from the last seven overs with Monank and Andries Gous well set. But Monank got out on the very next ball, allowing Pakistan to make a comeback and tie the game.

"When I got out, we were still in the game," Monank said after the match, "and I thought we should have finished the game and we should have never gone to Super Over. But the way we kept our nerves and in the Super Over particularly, scoring 18 runs itself gave us a big upper hand to defend the target."

Even though Monank was a bit upset because of the match going into Super Over, he still believed that the win against Pakistan is a great achievement and it’s going to open many doors for them.

"I am happy with the win, playing against Pakistan for the first time in the World Cup and beating them. It was an unbelievable performance from our side," he said. "So yeah, I would say it's a big day for Team USA and for the USA cricket community too.”

USA will be playing their next game against India on 12th June and they would definitely be hoping to win that too!
