Barbados Tridents Defeated Kings by 8 Wickets to End Losing Run

Barbados Tridents finally found a way out of their poor run in CPL 2026, beating St Lucia Kings by eight wickets in Bridgetown to end a four-match losing streak.

The Tridents vs Kings contest was effectively settled by the home side’s third-wicket partnership. Quinton de Kock remained unbeaten on 47 from 31 balls, while Rivaldo Clarke finished with 36 not out from 34 as Barbados reached 139 for 2.

The chase became particularly comfortable once the pair came together. Their unbeaten 76-run stand from 57 deliveries removed any pressure created when Barbados lost two wickets to spin after a 41-run opening partnership between Brandon King and Zachary Carter.

Carter had earlier contributed 32 from 22 balls, while King made 22 off 20. De Kock then accelerated towards the finish, hitting three fours and two sixes, including two boundaries and a six in the 18th over.

The foundation for the victory had been laid with the ball. St Lucia Kings were limited to 138 for 6 after Barbados opted to field, with Mujeeb Ur Rahman producing the decisive spell.

Mujeeb claimed 3 for 22, including two wickets in his final over when Charith Asalanka and Matthew Forde were dismissed. He had also removed a batter in his first over and conceded only seven runs during his opening two overs.

Daniel Sams added two wickets for 20 runs as Barbados kept the Kings from producing a strong finish. Kamil Pooran’s 37 from 24 balls and Roston Chase’s 34 off 28 were the main contributions, but the innings lacked sustained acceleration.

John Campbell’s 27-ball stay also hurt the Kings’ scoring rate, leaving too much work for the middle and lower order. Barbados capitalised by keeping the total within reach and then completing the chase with 13 balls remaining.

The victory does not lift the Tridents from the bottom of the CPL 2026 table, but it gives them some breathing room over Trinbago Knight Riders, who also have six points. Tridents defeated Kings at a crucial stage of their campaign and now have a chance to build on the result in their remaining matches.
