Sylhet Titans defeated Noakhali Express by 6 wickets in a one-sided BPL clash. Nasum Ahmed was their star player, as he took 5 wickets in the match to tear apart the Noakhali batting lineup. Due to his splendid bowling performance, Noakhali Express skittled for just 61 runs in the first innings. The Titans then chased down this little total in just 8.4 overs, giving Noakhali a humiliating thrashing at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
By enduring this big loss, Noakhali Express are now at the bottom of the points table. They have lost all their matches in the tournament so far, with their batting lineup failing to deliver in every game. This latest loss against Sylhet Titans means their chances to qualify for the play-offs stage are becoming increasingly difficult.
When Noakhali Express came out to bat in the first innings, they looked completely clueless against the opening bowling attack of Sylhet Titans. Both Khaled Ahmed and Nasum Ahmed bowled superbly to remove the openers inside the Powerplay. Munim Shahriar, who came out to bat at number three, also went back to the pavilion after scoring just 4 runs.
The team then pinned its hopes on the experience of Mohammad Nabi, however, he also failed to deliver by getting out on just 1 run. His dismissal was a big blow for the Noakhali Express team, as Nabi usually plays sensibly to take the innings deep.
The wicketkeeper batter, Mahidul Islam Ankon, then offered some resistance by holding one end firmly. Unfortunately, he didn’t find any support from the other end, as batters kept losing their wickets one after another. The captain, Haider Ali, was also a big disappointment, as he got out in the middle overs after scoring just 5 off 12 balls.
Due to the consistent pressure applied by the Sylhet Titans bowlers, the entire Noakhali Express batting lineup was routed for just 61 runs in 14.2 overs. Nasum Ahmed was the most exceptional bowler for Titans, as he took 5 wickets in four overs while conceding just 7 runs.
Coming out to chase the target, Sylhet Titans started strongly by taking on the Noakhali Express bowlers. Despite losing Parvez Hossain Emon early, they continued to play positively and looked to finish the chase quickly. Both Tawfique Khan and Zakir Hasan negated the opening attack by hitting boundaries almost every over.
Tawfique Khan was then dismissed after scoring quick 32 off 18 balls, which included seven boundaries at a strike rate of 177. His partner, Zakir Hasan, also departed for 24 runs, courtesy of a fine bowling spell from Zahir Khan.
The incoming batter, Afif Hossain, also got out quickly, but his dismissal did not make the Titans camp nervous, as they were already close to the target. The English middle-order batter Moeen Ali then hit the winning runs, giving Sylhet Titans a big victory over Noakhali Express. With this win, Sylhet Titans have moved to third place on the points table, with three wins from six matches.
