DUBAI: Sources reveal that Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has expressed his wish not to receive the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from Mohsin Naqvi if his side goes on to win the tournament.

Naqvi, who will be presenting the trophy in his role as chairman of the Asian Cricket Council, is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, which has added another layer of tension to the ongoing India–Pakistan rivalry.

According to reports, Yadav has already communicated his stance to officials, making it clear that he does not want Naqvi to hand over the silverware to India’s winning captain. The development comes just days after the fiery clash between India and Pakistan in Dubai, where off-field controversies grabbed as many headlines as the on-field battle.

Yadav had already found himself in trouble back home after shaking hands with Naqvi in the unveiling of the trophy as part of the tournament. Nevertheless, his performance in the pressure match said otherwise. Yadav did not shake hands with the captain of the Pakistani team, Salman Ali Agha, as is customary. He fist-bumped teammate Shivam Dube after driving his team to win with the winning runs, and then he walked straight to the dressing room.

Meanwhile, players of Pakistan were waiting in the queue and receive the usual handshake, but to their surprise, the Indian team withdrew and closed their dressing room doors. The incident sparked another argument and illuminated the Cold War between the two camps.

This new position by Yadav of the trophy ceremony has only made the matter even more intriguing, continuing to make the Asia Cup 2025 as dramatic off-field as on it.
