Suryakumar Yadav is backing Abhishek Sharma to find form in the upcoming T20 World Cup matches. He responded cleverly to a question that asked whether India could replace Abhishek with Sanju Samson in the clash against South Africa. It basically meant that Abhishek won’t be dropped even after scoring three consecutive ducks, as the team has full belief in his batting abilities.
"Should I play Sanju for Abhishek," said Suryakumar Yadav while replying to a query asking to replace Abhishek Sharma.
He then also ruled out replacing Tilak Varma at number 3, saying the team has been doing well lately by scoring runs in the Powerplay.
"You mean I should make him play for Tilak? It's going well in the powerplay. We're still making 40-50 runs. That's normal cricket. We have expectations from ourselves to score 220, 240, 250. But the wickets are a little different here.” said Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav.
"The four wickets we have played on so far were a little different and challenging. Offspinners were not bowling earlier but they are now. So we have started preparation for that and hopefully we will tackle it as we start our Super Eight journey." added Suryakumar Yadav.
When asked whether India is feeling the pressure to play the ICC T20 World Cup at home, Suryakumar admitted that there is considerable pressure on the team, as the home fans want them to deliver in the tournament.
"See, it's very difficult to say that there's no pressure, or it's easy to handle. But yeah, when you're playing such a big event on your home soil, you definitely feel pressure. It's not that you can run away from it because you meet so many people in the hotel when you are travelling, all with the same goal: to win the World Cup, we have to do well.” said Suryakumar Yadav.
