Ishan Kishan is all set to make a comeback in the Indian T20I squad, as he will play the first game against New Zealand, replacing the injured Tilak Varma. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed the team’s plans, describing the change in the batting order as part of their preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup.
"Ishan will bat at No. 3, since he is in our World Cup team, and we picked him first, so it's his responsibility and his turn to play, and he's not played for India for a long time," said Indian T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav.
He further added that Ishan has been doing well in the Indian domestic circuit for quite some time, so the management has picked him after closely analyzing his recent performances.
"He's been doing well in domestic cricket, and he's not played for the Indian team for a year or year-and-a-half, and since we've picked him in the World Cup squad, I feel he deserves to play. If it was a question of No. 4 or 5, we may have thought differently, but unfortunately Tilak isn't there, and I think Ishan is the best bet at No. 3." said Suryakumar Yadav at the press conference.
Speaking about his own batting position, Suryakumar said that he is flexible batting at number 3 or 4, depending on the requirements of the situation.
"I've batted at both the positions for India, No. 3 and No. 4. I have slightly better numbers at No. 4. They are also good at No. 3. But we are flexible with that. We'll see what the situation is when we play a game. If we have to send a right-hander, then I'll walk in, otherwise Tilak has been doing really well at No. 3." said Suryakumar Yadav.
When asked about his own form, Suryakumar said that he is not too worried about his runs as long as the team is winning. The captain also clarified that he will not change a particular approach that has worked well for him over the past few years. With that in mind, he still looks forward to attacking the opposition from ball one if the situation allows.
