Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is confident to defend the T20 crown in the upcoming World Cup after winning the Australia series. He praised the performance of the whole team, saying that everyone played their part effectively in all matches. As a result, India sealed the series by a margin of 2-1 after the last game in Brisbane was washed out due to rain.

Looking at the recent performances of India in T20Is, their squad is looking well set for the 2026 T20I World Cup. However, the captain still thinks there are several areas where his team needs to improve its game.

At the post-match press conference, Suryakumar Yadav highlighted that the players in his team have a variety of skillset. Due to that, they bring different options to the table that allows him to make decisions more freely.

"I'm very lucky to have all these boys with different-different skills. They bring very different-different things to the table. When we chat around about the bowling, batting, and fielding… You must have seen a lot of energy on the ground. People enjoy when they go together on the ground.” said Suryakumar Yadav at the post-match press conference.

Describing the batting strategy of the Indian team, Suryakumar Yadav said that they are sticking with an aggressive approach. They have been following this method for the last six to eight months, and so far, it has given them plenty of positive results.

"But yeah, from a batting point of view, definitely what we've been doing in the last six to eight months, I think we're sticking to that, not changing anything. These guys are doing it really well. The way they bat at the top of the order, it puts a smile on everyone's face when they're batting together.” said Suryakumar Yadav.

Speaking about the bowling performance, the Indian captain also applauded the efforts of various players. He described how different bowlers have taken responsibility in that department to give the team a strong edge in the last few matches.

"And also from a bowling point of view as well, people are taking responsibility. Having an experienced bowler like [Jasprit] Bumrah around in the team and everyone chatting with him, learning a lot of skills, tricks and trade of the game, I think that's a good thing. So there's good friendship building up in that as well.” said Suryakumar Yadav.

He then said that covering all bases in the T20I format is almost impossible. Every game provides opportunities to learn new things. As a captain, he understands this fact, which is why he always looks towards them with a positive mindset.

"So we are trying to get there. There's never anything like all bases covered. We always learn from this game, every game we play. Yeah, till now things look good, touch wood, let's continue that." said Suryakumar Yadav.

Speaking about the tactics of the openers in the last few games, Suryakumar said the batters judged the behavior of the pitch perfectly. As a result, they improvised their game accordingly, which eventually produced positive results.

"If the wicket is difficult, the quicker you adapt the better it is. The wicket was good today so they went back to normal, scoring 50-plus in four-and-a-half overs. But it was important in the last game to read the wicket well. These two [Abhishek and opening partner Shubman Gill] did that well. At this level, you only learn from experience. The way he adapted so quickly, if in the future also if we get such a wicket in the subcontinent, it won't be something new for him.” said Suryakumar Yadav.

India is currently feeling quite confident after winning the T20I series against Australia. It was definitely not a convincing victory, as two games of the series were washed out due to rain. The last game in Brisbane was one of them that didn’t provide any result, giving India a 2-1 lead in the series.
