Mitchell Marsh Leads Sunrisers To Thrilling Win Over Southern Brave in The Hundred 2026

Mitchell Marsh played a key role with the bat as Sunrisers Leeds recorded their first win of The Hundred 2026, beating Southern Brave by five runs at Headingley.

Sunrisers had started their campaign with a seven-wicket loss to MI London. However, they bounced back with a close win, while Southern Brave are still searching for their first victory after two matches.

After being asked to bat first, Marsh and Ryan Rickelton gave Sunrisers a strong start. The Australian looked in control from the start and took full advantage of a poor spell from Luke Wood. It went for 28 runs, including four free hits, as Sunrisers reached 102 without losing a wicket at the halfway point.

Adil Rashid then helped Southern Brave fight back by taking three wickets in the next few overs, including the prize scalp of Mitchell Marsh.

Afterwards, Dan Lawrence helped Sunrisers finish their innings strongly by scoring a half-century from 24 balls, while Tom Alsop added a quick 21 as they reached 187-5.

Southern Brave also made a strong start to their chase, with Ben McKinney leading the way with 44 runs from 23 balls.

Jamie Smith also played a quick knock of 30 from 18 balls, helping the visitors reach 80-2. Marcus Stoinis then added more momentum to the innings. The Australian smashed 31 runs from 16 balls, hitting four fours and a six, before Abrar Ahmed dismissed him with a fine delivery.

The late fighting knock of Tristan Stubbs still kept Southern Brave in the game, however, Nathan Ellis and Brydon Carse bowled well in the final stages to help Sunrisers secure a narrow win. Mitchell Marsh was then named Player of the Match, as his superb knock in the first innings gave Sunrisers a big edge over Southern Brave.
