Marsh, Rickelton & Brook Power Sunrisers to Historic Win Against London Spirit

Marsh, Rickelton & Brook Power Sunrisers to Historic Win Against London Spirit

Harry Brook produced a stunning 15-ball half-century as Sunrisers Leeds recorded the highest-ever total in Hundred history during their 37-run victory over London Spirit.

After being asked to bat first at Headingley, opener Ryan Rickelton played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 94 from just 42 balls, as Sunrisers posted a gigantic total of 241 in the first innings.

Brook's explosive hitting and Rickelton's powerful batting grabbed most of the attention, while Mitchell Marsh's impressive 76 at the top also built a strong momentum.

On a batting-friendly pitch, Marsh and Rickelton gave Sunrisers a perfect start by putting together a 148-run opening partnership. The strong foundation allowed England's white-ball captain Harry Brook to play freely and attack the bowling from the word go.

Brook smashed five sixes and five fours during his quick-fire innings, showing both power and timing. He built a strong partnership with Ryan Rickelton for the second wicket, as London Spirit's bowlers struggled to contain them. Unfortunately, Rickelton missed out on a century after facing fewer deliveries towards the end of the innings.

After conceding a record-breaking total, London Spirit faced more trouble in their chase as Jonny Bairstow was dismissed on the very first ball by Reece Topley. The pressure continued to build as the rest of the top order also failed to respond, leaving them at 44/4.

Former England all-rounder David Willey then stepped up and played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 83 from 46 balls to avoid a heavy defeat. Despite his heroic effort, London Spirit could only reach 204/6 in the second innings of the contest.

Talking about the Hundred standings, the victory moved Sunrisers up to fourth place in the points table and kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive, while Spirit slipped to seventh.
