Batting Coach Rathour Calls for Self-Belief as Sri Lanka Prepare for Super Eight

Batting Coach Rathour Calls for Self-Belief as Sri Lanka Prepare for Super Eight

The batting coach of Sri Lanka, Vikram Rathour, has urged the players to show more conviction in their skills and abilities. He wants the team to play with full confidence in the Super Eights matches that are coming ahead in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Speaking at the press conference, Rathour said that he was not much concerned about the team’s disappointing results in the England series. He was actually confident that the Sri Lankan team would turn things around in the mega event by sticking to their core skills.

"As far as sorting out the issues, I don't think there were any issues anyway. As a team you have some good games, you won't have good games on some days.” said Vikram Rathour.

“As long as you are focused on the areas that you need to work on. I was not really too concerned with the results in the England series. Nothing really has changed [since then]. We are still preparing the way we were." added Vikram Rathour.

He then applauded the recent success of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, saying they did a wonderful job for the team by playing confidently.

"Yeah, very impressive. We played, I think, almost the perfect batting innings. Pathum played one of the better T20 knocks that you'll see. And Kusal has been very consistent, and he's been doing that for us again and again. Again Pawan [Rathnayake] was really good [too]. So everything went to plan." said Vikram Rathour.

Rathour then expressed more optimism that the Sri Lankan batting lineup would quickly adapt to the Khettarama conditions, where they will face Zimbabwe in the upcoming encounter.

"I've read a great line, somebody has said, that these are not tough conditions, these are just different conditions. If you start thinking tough conditions, then you start going into a negative space of mind. We have enough skill in our batting unit to adapt to this." concluded Vikram Rathour.
