Pathum Nissanka Leads Sri Lanka to 34/1 After 10.4 Overs Despite Early Seales Strike

Sri Lanka reached 34/1 after 10.4 overs in the West Indies vs Sri Lanka opening ODI at Sabina Park, Kingston, as the visitors navigated a disciplined spell from the home side's pace attack. After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, West Indies managed to keep scoring opportunities to a minimum during the opening phase of the innings.

Pathum Nissanka played a patient knock at the top of the order, remaining unbeaten on 20 from 33 deliveries. The right-hander struck four boundaries and looked comfortable despite the pressure applied by the West Indies bowlers. Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis joined him at the crease and was unbeaten on one run from 10 balls as the visitors looked to build a solid partnership.

The only breakthrough for West Indies came in the seventh over when Jayden Seales dismissed Kamindu Mendis for 12 runs off 21 deliveries. Kamindu showed glimpses of aggression during his stay, hitting one four and one six before edging a delivery behind to wicketkeeper Shai Hope. The wicket left Sri Lanka at 22/1 and briefly shifted momentum in favor of the hosts.

Seales was the standout performer with the ball, producing an impressive spell of 1/16 from five overs, including three maidens. Matthew Forde also maintained excellent control, conceding just 10 runs from four overs while building pressure from the opposite end. Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph chipped in with economical overs as West Indies kept Sri Lanka's scoring rate under check.

Sri Lanka collected 32 runs for the loss of one wicket during the mandatory first powerplay and will now look to accelerate in the middle overs. With Nissanka set at the crease and several key batters still to come, the visitors remain hopeful of building a competitive total in the 1st ODI of the Sri Lanka Tour of West Indies.
