Cape Verde Stun Spain with Historic World Cup Draw

Cape Verde Stun Spain with Historic World Cup Draw

Cape Verde made a memorable start to their first-ever World Cup campaign by holding Spain to a 0-0 draw, making Group H even more interesting. It was another disappointing result for Spain, who came into the tournament as one of the favourites and have now managed just one win in their last seven World Cup matches.

As expected, Spain controlled most of the ball from the opening stages, but Cape Verde packed their defense and made life difficult for them. Despite creating several chances in the first half, Spain failed to find the breakthrough, and the teams went into the break with the score still level.

The pattern remained the same after halftime. Spain continued to push forward, but Cape Verde stayed organized at the back and rarely looked under serious pressure. A few nervous moments appeared for the underdogs, but Spain could not take advantage of them.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente eventually brought on Lamine Yamal, who had been a fitness concern before the match. The young winger added energy and creativity, but even he could not unlock Cape Verde’s stubborn defense.

Eventually, Cape Verde held firm until the final whistle, earning a historic point on their World Cup debut as the match ended in a goalless draw.
