Spain Storm into Round of 16 With 3-0 Win Over Austria

Spain produced a strong display to beat Austria 3-0 and move into the FIFA World Cup Round of 16. They also kept another clean sheet, extending their run without conceding a goal. Mikel Oyarzabal played a key role once again, taking his tally to 24 goal contributions in his last 16 international matches.

Both teams managed to get behind the defence in the opening minutes, with Lamine Yamal forcing the first save of the game. Austria remained dangerous on the counter, but Spain gradually took control and created several chances. Aymeric Laporte came close from a series of early corners as the pressure continued to build.

Spain thought they had gone ahead after the cooling break when Marc Cucurella scored from a corner, but the referee ruled the goal out for a foul on goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.

Spain kept attacking, and Schlager made two excellent saves to deny Oyarzabal and Yamal. However, Austria's defence finally gave way before halftime as Cucurella picked out Oyarzabal, who calmly finished to put Spain in front.

Afterwards, Alex Baena nearly doubled the lead with a superb free-kick that struck the crossbar just before the break, while Yamal was unable to score from the rebound after a scramble inside the box.

The flow of the match stayed the same after halftime, with Austria struggling to deal with Spain's constant attacks. Even so, the score remained 1-0, giving Austria hope of finding an equaliser.

However, Spain soon ended any hopes of a comeback, as Pedro Porro rose inside the box to score his first goal for the national team.

With a two-goal lead, Spain were fully in control. Lamine Yamal almost added another, but David Alaba cleared his shot off the goal line. Oyarzabal then completed the scoring in the 89th minute, finishing another fine cross from Marc Cucurella.

The 3-0 win sends Spain into the Round of 16, where they will face the winners of the upcoming clash between Portugal and Croatia. They also stretched their unbeaten run to 14 matches, making them one of the strongest teams left in the tournament.
