Spain Crowned World Champions After Thrilling 1-0 Victory Over Argentina

Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute to help Spain win its second World Cup title on Sunday. His goal proved to be the difference as Spain beat Argentina in a tense final at the MetLife Stadium.

Spain had 12 shots on target, while defending champions Argentina failed to register a single one. However, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez kept his team in the game for most of the match. He made 11 saves, setting a new record for the most saves in a World Cup final.

Martinez finally had no answer when Torres fired the ball into the net after Nico Williams headed it into his path during extra time.

Torres thought he had scored again later in extra time after Spain launched a counter-attack. He found himself through on goal and beat Martinez to make it 2-0. However, the goal was ruled out for offside by a shoulder.

Spain then had to survive a tense final few minutes as Argentina finally created two dangerous chances and came close to finding an equalizer.

In the end, Spain held its nerves to win a thrilling World Cup final and lift the trophy for just the second time in their history. On the other side, the hearts of the Argentine fans were broken, as their superstar Lionel Messi couldn’t produce his magic when it mattered the most.
