Reyneke Shines As Proteas Level T20I Series Vs New Zealand

Reyneke Shines As Proteas Level T20I Series Vs New Zealand

South Africa vs New Zealand second T20I match felt tight from the start, turned in favor of Proteas in the end.

South Africa needed something bold in the final over, and they got it. Kayla Reyneke walked in with barely time to settle. Nine balls later, the scoreboard had flipped completely. Three clean strikes sailed over the ropes. The sound off the bat told the story before the ball even landed.

That late burst pushed South Africa to 177 for five. At one stage, it looked decent. After that over, it looked dangerous.

Reyneke changes the script late

The Kayla Reyneke performance stood out not just for the runs but for the timing. She finished unbeaten on 28, a short stay that carried serious weight.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt looked impressed, almost surprised. You could see it in her reaction. She spoke about the clean hitting and the depth in the lineup. When someone that young walks in and swings like that, it lifts the whole side.

New Zealand tried to respond. They never quite found that one partnership to steady things. Amelia Kerr kept things moving with 32 and chipped in with the ball too, but the chase kept slipping away in small moments.

And that’s where it turned. The hosts ended on the wrong side by 18 runs, and suddenly the South Africa vs New Zealand T20I series feels wide open again.

Reyneke’s rise has been quick. From youth cricket to delivering on this stage, she looks ready for more. No doubt about it.

The next match in Auckland now carries extra weight. The series is alive. And after this, everyone will be watching that young all-rounder a little more closely.
