South Africa is pinning hopes on Dewald Brevis after he performed exceptionally well in the recently concluded SA20 2026. The team believes he can do wonders in the mega event, as his capability to win matches single-handedly is exceptional.
The batting prowess of Brevis is acknowledged by Ryan Rickelton, who believes the Pretoria Capitals star is a ‘trump card’ for South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
"Our trump card is always going to be Brevis, just with the way he plays the game. He does some stuff and some things that a lot of us can't do," said Ryan Rickelton.
The captain of Pretoria Capitals, Keshav Maharaj, also lauded the skills of Dewald Brevis at the end of the SA20 final. He said Brevis showcased a lot of responsibility while batting at no.4, which means he is a very mature player.
"With the responsibility batting at No. 4, he showed what he's capable of in the last three games. The maturity shown in these last couple of games, no one would have expected Brevis to do that. We know him to be a hard-hitting, six-hitting player, but he just showed his composure and his class.” said Keshav Maharaj.
“He's someone that we know, if he bats 50 balls, he'll get a hundred. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here for him, and he shows that maturity whenever he plays in any format of the game." added Keshav Maharaj.
The West Indian captain Shai Hope, who played with Brevis recently in SA20, also praised his natural talent and ability to win matches.
"He's very professional, and he's certainly a proper cricketer. One of the best I've seen in a long time. He's got natural talent and ability. Since we are team-mates, I actually want to see him doing really well in the future, but hopefully not too well in this series." said Shai Hope.
