South Africa registered a commanding victory over New Zealand in the latest ICC T20 World Cup clash. A powerful batting performance by Aiden Markram helped the Proteas to win the game before Marco Jansen showcased his bowling class in the first innings.
Batting first, New Zealand started the innings strongly, as Finn Allen and Tim Seifert played big shots to build an early momentum. However, the introduction of Marco Jansen disrupted all their batting plans, as he took three wickets in quick succession to put the brakes on the Kiwi scoring rate.
The middle order of New Zealand then played sensibly to steady the innings, as Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell built a little partnership to absorb the pressure. The counterattack of Mark Chapman was impressive, as he played positively to give New Zealand some respite during the middle overs.
Chapman was looking well set to score a fifty, but he lost his wicket in the 14th over after scoring brilliant 48 runs. Soon after that, Daryl Mitchell was also dismissed by Lungi Ngidi, putting more pressure on the New Zealand batting lineup.
A late order cameo by James Nisham then helped the Kiwis to recover from the collapse and post a decent total of 175 at the end of the innings. It certainly looked like a good score, but the reply of South Africa stunned everyone in the second innings.
The Proteas came up with all guns blazing to chase down the target. A spectacular batting display by Aiden Markram led the foundation, as he scored briskly in the Powerplay to set the tone for the chase. Even after the dismissal of Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton, he kept playing his shots to score quickly for South Africa in the second innings.
Due to his commanding 86 off just 44 balls, South Africa cruised to victory in just 17.1 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. By winning the match, they have now secured the top position in the Group D points table with three wins in three matches.
