South Africa Ease To Victory Over Namibia in Rain-Hit First ODI
South Africa began the ODI series against Namibia with a 99-run win after a superb debut from Jordan Hermann and a strong bowling display from Prenelan Subrayen at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
Namibia had earlier won the toss and decided to bowl, hoping to make the most of the conditions. However, the plan did not go their way as South Africa's batters took control from the start.
Hermann made an immediate impact in his first ODI, scoring a memorable 150 from 126 balls. He hit 17 fours and three sixes during his stay at the crease and was named Player of the Match for his effort.
The left-hander built the innings around a big second-wicket stand with Tony de Zorzi. The pair added 190 runs together, giving South Africa a solid platform after the early stages of the innings. De Zorzi played the supporting role well, finishing with 72 from 84 balls, including seven fours and a six.
South Africa kept the scoring rate high in the later overs despite losing wickets. Dewald Brevis added 33 runs, while Corbin Bosch finished unbeaten on 39 as the Proteas reached 348/6 from their 50 overs.
Ruben Trumpelmann was Namibia's best bowler, finishing with four wickets for 68 runs from his 10 overs. JJ Smit and Gerhard Erasmus also picked up a wicket each.
After rain reduced the chase to 262 runs from 31 overs, Namibia struggled to keep up with the required run rate. They ended their innings at 162/8, losing the match by 99 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
Malan Kruger top-scored for Namibia with 34 from 60 balls, although he found it difficult to score freely. Smit added 31 runs, while captain Erasmus made 21, but none of the batters could produce a big innings.
South Africa's bowlers kept things under control throughout the shortened chase. Prenelan Subrayen was the main threat, taking four wickets for 29 runs in six overs. Besides him, Kwena Maphaka claimed two wickets, while Duan Jansen and Corbin Bosch took one each.
Due to this strong performance, the Proteas started the ODI series on a strong note, with Jordan Hermann taking the Player of the Match award on his international debut.
