South Africa has announced white ball squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series in India. This is a high-profile series in which top players from both sides would take part to clinch the victory. The return of Quinton de Kock has bolstered the hopes of the Proteas to achieve something big in this series. His performances against Pakistan in the recent ODI matches were remarkable, so expectations from him are high in the upcoming series as well.
The most notable return to the Proteas squad is Anrich Nortje. He is coming back to international cricket after a long absence due to injury. He last appeared for South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup, meaning he is returning to cricket after almost a year and a half.
Anrich Nortje was sidelined from cricket due to a recurring stress fracture. He has worked hard to regain his fitness, and his recent appearances in the South African domestic cricket have given selectors a lot of hope.
It should be noted that the team management remains cautious about Anrich Nortje’s workload, as he has been named only in South Africa’s T20 squad for the upcoming India series. His selection also indicates that selectors are considering him for the 2026 T20 World Cup that will be played in India and Sri Lanka.
After missing the Pakistan tour due to injury, Temba Bavuma will resume his duties as ODI skipper in the upcoming India series. He has been named only in the ODI squad, as the T20I team will be led by Aiden Markram.
Unfortunately, Tristan Stubbs has been left out of the ODI squad, as his recent performances in the format were not up to the mark. He has been replaced by Rubin Hermann, who recently made a promising debut in the Pakistan series.
In the T20I squad, there was no place for Ryan Rickelton, as Quinton de Kock took a lead over him as left-handed opener. Another reason why the team went with de Kock is because he has a strong T20I track record in India.
Similarly, Reeza Hendricks has been retained in the T20I squad, whereas the young Lhuan-de Pretorius has been dropped. The team showed confidence in Hendricks because he is a much more experienced player as compared to Pretorius in the T20I format.
David Miller, who missed the Pakistan tour due to injury, will also return to the T20I squad. This is a big opportunity for the veteran batter to make a strong comeback in international cricket, as he last represented South Africa in March during the ICC Champions Trophy.
The ODI series between India and South Africa is slated to start from November 30. After its conclusion, both teams will come head-to-head against each other in the T20I series, which will begin from December 9 in Cuttack.
