The noise around the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup contest refuses to settle. Yet, Sourav Ganguly isn’t buying into the hype anymore.
Speaking after India’s commanding 61-run victory in Colombo, the former captain said the fixture does not carry the same weight it once did. He pointed to a clear gap in quality. And he did not sugarcoat it.
Ganguly said fans often romanticise the past. They remember the Pakistan sides of the 1980s and 1990s, packed with match-winners. But, according to him, that edge is missing now.
“We make the mistake of thinking of Pakistan as the team of Javed Miandad and Saeed Anwar,” he said. “That Pakistan no longer exists.”
Those Sourav Ganguly Comments came after India posted a strong total and then dismantled Pakistan with disciplined bowling. The margin, the biggest against Pakistan in T20 World Cups, only strengthened his view.
For Ganguly, the real thrill lies elsewhere. He named India’s contests against Australia, South Africa and England as sterner tests. The results in those games, he believes, are far less predictable.
In fact, he admitted he switched screens midway through the match to watch Premier League football. That says plenty.
Meanwhile, India have sealed a Super 8 spot. Pakistan are left searching for answers. And once again, the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup debate rolls on, fuelled further by sharp Sourav Ganguly Comments that refuse to fade quietly.
