The first test between India and West Indies finished in just 3 days, as the hosts thumped the visitors quite comprehensively at Ahmedabad. The men in blue showcased complete dominance in the match by playing aggressively in both innings. As a result, the inexperienced WI team succumbed to the pressure and lost the match by an innings and 140 runs.

After the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill happily called his team’s performance perfect against the West Indies. He highlighted the innings of three centurions (KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja) as a remarkable effort in the game. The captain also said that the Indian team fielded really well in both innings, which put a lot of pressure on the West Indian batters.

"Three centurions in the game and I think we fielded really well in both the innings, so honestly don't really have any complaints. I've lost six tosses in a row, but as long as we keep winning the matches, it doesn't matter for us. I'm very happy with the win." said Indian captain Shubman Gill at the post-match press conference.

India bowled out West Indies on 162 runs in the first innings. Their star bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah took the lead by taking wickets upfront. The early pressure applied by them didn’t allow WI batters to get settled in the crease. As a result, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, making no real progress on the scoreboard.

When India came out to bat after bowling WI out perfectly, they displayed complete command in batting. The opener, KL Rahul, played a remarkable knock at the top by scoring a splendid century. Meanwhile, the middle-order batters Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja also exhibited batting dominance by scoring stunning centuries.

Besides praising the batters for such remarkable performance, Shubman Gill also heaped praise on the efforts of his spin bowlers. In the first test match, both Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar gave India solid breakthroughs with their exceptional spin bowling.

"When you've got quality spinners like them, it's difficult to be able to rotate," Gill said. "But it's good to have an option of too many rather than not having any. But that's the challenge and that's the fun of playing in India. There would always be someone who would be out there ready to get the job done." said Shubman Gill.

The Indian batter also highlighted that his side is still learning various things while playing with different teams. This has given them a chance to improve various areas that are considered critical in any match.

"It's hard to pin down to one or two things that I learned, but I think over a period of two years, how we bonded as a team and how we got ourselves out from tough situations and difficult situations. That was really pleasing for me to see. We are still a learning side and I think as long as we keep learning from our experiences that we have, I think we're going to be on the positive side of the match." said Shubman Gill.

India will now take on West Indies in the 2nd test match at Delhi. Shubman Gill is confident that the team will carry the same momentum in the second match, where conditions could be different from Ahmedabad. He is optimistic about winning that match as well by showcasing similar team performance.
