‘They Deserve Respect’ – Shahid Afridi Rallies in Support of Shehzad, Akmal Following PSL 11 Exclusion

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has come out in support of Ahmed Shahzad and Umar Akmal after the duo was overlooked by all franchises in the recent PSL 2026 auction. Afridi believes both players deserve some respect, as they have previously performed well for Pakistan at the international level.

Afridi had earlier believed that the two new PSL franchises would give opportunities to former Pakistan cricketers, however, the recent auction proved him completely wrong and left him disappointed.

"In my view, I believe that we tend to ignore certain players completely. I had hoped that after two new teams came in, some of our experienced cricketers would be considered," said Shahid Afridi while talking to the media.

"I think it is necessary to mention them here. I have done so before, and I will do so again — whether it is Umar Akmal or Ahmed Shehzad.” added Shahid Afridi.

The former Pakistan captain said that these players deserve respect, as their performances for the national team have been exemplary. He added that both Shehzad and Akmal should not be ignored, as they still have the ability to play quality cricket.

"They deserve respect. Both have delivered outstanding performances in the past. They are quality players and fine cricketers. I believe they should not be ignored so heavily and should be given opportunities, they should have been given chances." said Shahid Afridi.

Afridi then recalled his playing days, saying that he managed the duo, as well as other players effectively to maintain harmony within the Pakistan team.

"When I was captain and worked with them, I knew how to manage them and how to deal with others as well," added Shahid Afridi
