'Machines Deteriorate With Time' – Shaheen Afridi Explains Why Pakistan Pacers Are Losing Pace
Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Afridi shared his views on why some of the team's pacers have lost their pace. He said fast bowlers tend to lose speed over time, with fitness often playing a key role in this regard. The skipper also assured that he and the rest of the bowling attack are training hard to overcome this issue, but it cannot be resolved overnight.
When asked about how Nahid Rana kept bowling with high pace in the recent test series, Shaheen said that he is quite young at the international level, which is why his fitness is also great at the moment.
"First of all, Bangladesh fast bowler [Nahid] Rana must have played seven-eight matches. It is a norm that machines deteriorate with time. We are trying to recharge ourselves.” said Shaheen Afridi while talking to the reporters.
"You can put more pace in the ball when your body has had rest, but our bodies remain always at Pakistan's disposal. All the bowlers are thinking about how they can increase their speeds.” added Shaheen Afridi.
He further said that coaches are also working with different bowlers in the NCA, so that fitness and load of every player can be managed accordingly.
"Some of our bowlers are playing Tests and the others are playing ODIs so they stay fresh. The coaches and the NCA are working [on how to manage their loads]." said Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Afridi.
Speaking about the preparations for the Pakistan vs Australia ODI series, he said the team participated in a training camp under the supervision of Mike Hesson recently, so they are confident about their preparations for the upcoming matches.
"ODI cricket has not been played regularly, so the camp was important for everyone to regain rhythm and prepare properly. The practice sessions have been very good, and we are hopeful of producing strong performances," said Shaheen Afridi.
Talking about Babar Azam, Shaheen said that he is the backbone of the team and is currently in good form after a successful PSL 2026 campaign.
"Babar has been an important part of the middle order for a long time. He performed well in the PSL and also played good innings in the last Test match. We hope his form continues and he wins matches for Pakistan." said Shaheen Afridi.
