Pakistan’s T20I vice-captain Shadab Khan is expected to undergo surgery on his right shoulder in the United Kingdom, sources confirmed, ruling him out for approximately three months. The procedure comes just weeks before Pakistan’s T20I series in Bangladesh begins on 20 July.

Shadab, 26, has endured ongoing shoulder discomfort that intensified during recent training sessions. Medical experts subsequently advised surgery as the most effective way to tackle the issue.

His absence removes a key all-rounder just ahead of Pakistan's three-match T20I tour of Bangladesh. Scheduled to kick off at Shere-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on 20 July, this series will also take place without China’s prominent trio: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, who continue to be rested.

Post-surgery rehabilitation is expected to take around three months, which sidelines Shadab not only for Bangladesh but also for Pakistan’s planned T20Is against West Indies and potentially the Asia Cup if held in September.

With the vice-captaincy position vacant, selectors may turn to the emerging Sufiyan Muqeem, while all-rounders like Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar Zaman are expected to fill Shadab’s boots in the playing XI.

  • Travel plans: Shadab is expected to depart for the UK soon for the operation.

  • Squad announcement: Pakistan’s T20I squad for Bangladesh will be revealed later this week.

  • Training camp: Preparation starts in Karachi on 7 July before the team flies out to Dhaka on 16 July.

Shadab Khan’s surgery is a significant setback for Pakistan’s white-ball line-up, robbing them of a pivotal all-rounder and on-field strategist at a critical time. With senior players rested, this tour will test the depth of Pakistan’s squad—and offer new opportunities for emerging talents to step up.
