Shadab Khan Admits Pakistan Have Fallen Behind in Modern-Day Cricket

Shadab Khan has admitted that Pakistan are struggling to keep pace with the changing demands of modern-day cricket. The all-rounder also said that steps are now being taken to improve the situation.

During an interview with a local platform, Shadab was asked why Pakistan have not won a major tournament since their 2017 ICC Champions Trophy triumph. It is one of those questions that has been regularly asked in the Pakistan’s cricket circles, as the team has not won any trophy since then.

The 27-year-old said Pakistan have struggled to keep up with the changing demands of modern cricket. He added that the team must accept its shortcomings first before working on them.

"I think everyone has their own individual factors, but I feel we are quite far behind the way modern day cricket is being played, and we still haven't caught up to it. I think we first need to accept that, and only then can we try to adapt to it," said Shadab Khan.

"Over the last year or year and a half, I think there is now an acceptance that we are lagging behind in modern day cricket, and efforts are being made to fix that. You have to climb the stairs slowly. If you try to jump, you will make more mistakes," added Shadab Khan.

Pakistan have struggled badly against India since their famous 10-wicket victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. They have lost 11 of their last 12 matches against their arch-rivals across ODIs and T20Is.

Shadab, who was part of Pakistan's historic win, said the high pressure surrounding such a big game can have a major impact on the decisions made by players.

"Sometimes it feels like if you win the India match, you've won the World Cup, and if you lose it, you've lost the World Cup. It's just another match like any other," said Shadab Khan.
