Sadio Mané Included in Senegal World Cup 2026 Squad After Missing Last Tournament

Sadio Mané Included in Senegal World Cup 2026 Squad After Missing Last Tournament

Sadio Mané, who plays for Al-Nassr, has been picked in Senegal’s 28-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026. He was also part of the team's squad for the 2022 edition, but a knee injury ruled him out of the tournament.

Mané was also on the pitch with his Senegal teammates during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in January, when Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty. This sparked protests from several Senegal players, who appeared visibly frustrated with the referee’s decision.

Sadio Mané will now lead Senegal’s attack at the World Cup, alongside Bayern Munich forward Nicolas Jackson, Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye, and Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr.

Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has also picked Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye, Sunderland’s Habib Diarra, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Pape Matar Sarr in the World Cup squad.

Thiaw will now need to cut his squad down to 26 players, as required by FIFA, before the final deadline on 2 June.

Senegal will start their World Cup journey in New Jersey against France on 16 June. They will then face Norway on 22 June and Iraq on 26 June.

For the unversed, the expanded FIFA World Cup 2026 will have 48 teams and will be played across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
