Samson Says Bumrah Played a Key Role in India’s Semi Final Triumph

Sanju Samson hailed the bowling performance of Jasprit Bumrah after India defeated England in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He said Bumrah bowled exceptionally well in the death overs that allowed India to win the match by a very narrow margin.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, he said the Player of the Match award should be given to Jasprit Bumrah, as his fabulous death bowling show gave India a remarkable victory over England.

"All credit goes to Jasprit Bumrah. I think the world-class bowler, once-in-a-generation bowler... I think that's what he delivered today. This [award] should go to him actually. So, if he didn't bowl that way in the death overs, I would not be standing here. So all credit goes to the bowlers, how they backed themselves in the tough conditions." said Sanju Samson at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav, also showered praise on the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah. He said Bumrah did the unthinkable again, just as he has done many times for India over the past few years.

"Absolutely. I mean, you know how capable he is, and what he's done over the years for India. And he did the same thing today. Embraced it, raised his hand again, showed character, and pulled the game away from them." said Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar then spoke about how Sanju Samson held his nerves when wickets were falling, as he knew exactly what needed to be done to post a big total.

"He knew what he wanted to do as soon as he went into bat. Even when the wickets fell, he knew the wicket was good, so he kept pressing the pedal. The way he batted, I think the team required that from him. It was all due from last year, all the hard work he was doing and it was a special knock today." said Suryakumar Yadav.
