The CEO of the PSL, Salman Naseer, recently revealed the teams that will feature in the opening match of the PSL 2026 season. While addressing the media, he said that defending champions Lahore Qalandars will take on league debutants Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in the opening clash of the tournament.
Salman also said that the opening ceremony of the tournament will take place just before the first match, offering fans a spectacular show featuring renowned stars. He further revealed that the majority of the first-leg matches will be played in Lahore, with the official schedule set to be announced soon.
Recently, some media reports suggested that the grand finale of the PSL 2026 season could be played outside Pakistan. When asked about these speculations, Salman Naseer said that the proposal was under consideration and that details would become clear in the coming days.
"The schedule will be announced later this week, so everything will become clear. But definitely, this was an issue under consideration, that our overseas Pakistanis also want to enjoy the PSL and experience it," said PSL CEO, Salman Naseer.
He emphasized that the PSL is rapidly becoming a global league, so his team is aiming to expand its reach by taking some key matches overseas. While nothing has been finalized yet, the idea related to this is certainly under consideration.
"Now, as we are becoming a global league, maybe we should take at least one match overseas. Whether that will happen this year or next year, you will get clarity by the end of this week," said Salman Naseer.
When asked whether Peshawar will host some PSL matches this year, Salman Naseer said that it would depend on the readiness of its venue, which is being closely monitored by the PCB.
"Our team visited the Peshawar stadium and found that a few things were not up to the mark, including the ground conditions. That’s why we shifted the National T20 Cup. Our effort is to take the PSL to Peshawar. Everything will be clarified by the end of this week," said Salman Naseer.
