Rising Pakistan left-arm pacer, Salman Mirza, is looking forward to performing strongly in the upcoming Super Eights clash against Sri Lanka. He understands that Pakistan are under a tricky situation, as they need to win the match by a big margin to secure the spot in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes clash in Pallekele, Salman Mirza said that reaching the semi-finals is difficult, however, the Pakistan team will try its best to come up with a strong result.
“It’s a critical situation as reaching the semi-final is not in our control,” Salman Mirza told reporters.
He then said that if Pakistan reaches the semi-final, they have the capability to stun anyone in the tournament.
“But if we reach the semi-final, we have the capability to do better,” said Salman Mirza.
Salman then talked about the loss to England, saying the green shirts are currently in this tricky position due to losing a close match at Pallekele.
“We needed to win the match against England, and that defeat has given us this position,” said Salman Mirza.
“I had the opportunity to become a hero in the final over, but I couldn’t grab that one.” added Salman Mirza.
Salman then admitted that such opportunities do not come a player’s way every time, so he feels a bit disappointed after missing it. He reiterated that the team gave its best to win the match, however, the result didn’t go in their favor despite all their efforts.
“Such opportunities do not come your way every day. Had I taken two wickets, we would have won that match, but it was not to be,” concluded Salman Mirza.
