Veteran Bangladesh coach Salahuddin has ruled out setting a stamp of favouritism after the increasing suspicion over his position with the national side. This comes amid uncertainty over whether the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will retain him as part of their coaching setup after the Zimbabwe Tri-Nation Series 2025.

Salahuddin addressed rumours suggesting that some players had been given preference due to personal relationships. “I don’t believe in favouritism. I’ve always focused on developing players based on their merit and performance,” he said. “I don’t pick players. That’s not my job. My role is to support them, help them improve.”

Salahuddin has long been seen as a mentor to several top Bangladeshi cricketers, including Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Tamim Iqbal. While that has earned him respect, it has also led to criticism that he holds too much influence behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, the BCB has not made any clear statement on Salahuddin’s future with the national side. Board officials, when asked, have repeatedly stated that a decision will be made after internal reviews.

The silence from the BCB has left fans divided. Some have taken to social media to defend Salahuddin’s contributions, while others believe a fresh coaching approach may be needed as Bangladesh prepares for upcoming ICC events.

For now, Salahuddin continues to work with players on a short-term basis and remains open to extending his involvement—if the board sees value in it.
