Brevis Fireworks and Clinical Finish Sink Resilient Zimbabwe in SA vs Zim Super 8 Clash

South Africa’s relentless march through the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup continued unabated on Sunday, as the Proteas secured a hard-fought five-wicket victory over a resilient Zimbabwe at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The win ensures South Africa finishes the Super 8 stage with a flawless record.

Under the hazy Delhi sky, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and elected to bat, hoping to post a total that would test a South African side that had rested several frontline stars, including Kagiso Rabada. The decision appeared to backfire early as the Zimbabwean top order struggled against the Kwena Maphaka. The left-arm prodigy, a breakout star of this tournament, struck twice in the powerplay, removing Tadiwanashe Marumani and Wessly Madhevere to leave the Chevrons reeling at 28 for 2.

While wickets tumbled around him, Raza took the attack to the South African spinners, clearing the ropes four times in a blistering 73 off 43 balls. His counter-attacking brilliance, supported by a late-innings cameo from Clive Madande (26*), propelled Zimbabwe to 153 for 7.

The chase, however, began in a manner that suggested a major upset was brewing. Raza, emboldened by his batting exploits, opened the bowling and immediately deceived Quinton de Kock with a quicker delivery that crashed into the off-stump. When he trapped Proteas skipper Aiden Markram plumb in front two overs later, South Africa were stuttering at 43 for 3 and the vocal Zimbabwean contingent in the stands was in full voice.

Known as "Baby AB," decimated the seamers, hitting four massive sixes in an 18-ball 42 that effectively broke the back of the chase.

Although Raza returned to dismiss Brevis and finish with remarkable figures of 3 for 29, the damage was done. South Africa now heads to the semi-finals as the only unbeaten team remaining, carrying the momentum of seven consecutive wins.
