West Indies defeated Bangladesh comprehensively in the 3rd T20I at Chattogram. The star batter of the visiting team was none other than young Ackeem Auguste, who played a brilliant knock of 50 runs while chasing the target of 152 in the second innings. The stand-in captain of West Indies, Roston Chase, hailed the performance of the young star, stating that his talent is limitless and will continue to grow with the passage of time.
When Auguste came out to bat in the 3rd T20I, the game was evenly balanced. It could have gone Bangladesh’s way if Auguste hadn’t launched a stunning counterattack. Due to his innings, West Indies gained strong momentum during the middle overs, which eventually allowed them to chase down the target inside 17 overs.
After the match, Roston Chase said that Ackeem Auguste has developed into a far more mature player than he was a few years ago.
"I thought he had a great innings. I have played with him in St. Lucia in the last couple of years. He has improved steadily. The Ackeem I used to know, would play some exciting shots and then get out for 20 or 30. I find out that he is maturing very much.” said Roston Chase at the post-match press conference.
He further said that Ackeem Auguste now understands the game much better, which is a good sign for the West Indies team. He believes that the young star can achieve plenty of milestones in the future, as the sky is the only limit for him.
“He is understanding how to build the innings now. The sky is the limit for him. I think he has a very rare ability to strike the ball. He has a clean swing. He has to continue doing hard work and keep believing." said Roston Chase.
Speaking about the match, he said that West Indies played better cricket by making partnerships. According to him, this was the key difference between both teams, and luckily, West Indies was far ahead in this.
"I think Bangladesh never really had a big partnership, or one partnership where two batters stood up. It was only the left-hander, while all the guys were getting out around him. The plan was to bat normally, get six to seven runs per over till the 15th over. But as me and Ackeem got in on the wicket, it became easier to play our strokes. The ball was coming on to the bat. I think it was the best wicket of the three games. We capitalized on the balls in our area.” said Roston Chase.
West Indies showcased complete dominance over Bangladesh in all the matches of the T20I series. Their batting performed superbly in the 3rd T20I, which allowed the visitors to not just win the game, but also clinch the T20I series by a commanding margin of 3-0. This is indeed a great achievement that highlights West Indies growing ability to perform well in the tough subcontinent conditions.
