The first day of the 68th edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QEAT) has been canceled owing to heavy rain at all venues.
The poor weather on Monday prompted a complete washout at all five venues: Abbottabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar.
The inaugural round of the country's premiere first-class tournament will take place from October 6 to 9, with the Sialkot team defending its championship.
“The PCB has announced a winner’s prize of PKR 7.5 million, while the runners up will collect PKR 4 million. Moreover, the player of the match in each league match will also get PKR 25,000,” the board said in a statement.
“The player of the final will be awarded PKR 100k, while the best bowler, batter, wicket-keeper, and player of the tournament will be awarded PKR 250k each,” it added.
As part of the player development program, each side is obligated to deploy at least one U21 player in its playing XI.
The competition features ten teams, with FATA, Faisalabad, Karachi Blues, and Multan qualified via the Hanif Mohammad Trophy.
Meanwhile, wicketkeepers Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Hasan Ali, and Sajid Khan are representing their respective areas in the event, as directed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
