Rain did not just interrupt cricket in Navi Mumbai. It took control of it. The India vs Bangladesh World Cup group match at the DY Patil Stadium promised tension, delivered fragments of cricket, and ended with the weather sealing the final word.

The match was abandoned with India cruising at 57 without loss in 8.4 overs while chasing a DLS-adjusted target of 126 in 27 overs. Both teams took one point each. India confirmed a spot in the semi-finals.

Bangladesh began slowly, survived nervously, and then fought with scraps. Their innings were broken three times by rain, and they never found rhythm. The new-ball spell from Renuka Thakur and Sree Charani pinned them early.

Sharmin Akter offered resistance. She did not chase balls outside off. She waited and worked singles. Her 36 off 53 was patient, if not pretty. She watched partners fall around her. She dealt with Radha Yadav, who came on with fire from the Pavilion End, and still found gaps behind point. But Bangladesh needed collaboration, which they lacked in the whole match.

Sobhana Mostary’s 26 off 21 injected urgency. Then Radha snapped it. She bowled Nahida Akter, and Bangladesh sagged at 99/6. Radha finished with 3 for 30. Sree Charani grabbed 2. Deepti, Renuka, and Amanjot picked one each. Bangladesh ended at 119/8 in 27 overs, and India got a DLS-adjusted target of 126 in 27 overs.

The chase began with grey clouds resting low over Navi Mumbai. Smriti Mandhana did not wait. She cut the first ball of the innings behind point. They made their intent clear. Go hard early. Beat the weather.

Amanjot Kaur, promoted to open, settled fast. She tucked singles, left wide balls, and punched anything loose.  It was a message: scoreboard pressure stays on Bangladesh. India reached 50 in just 7.3 overs. The chase was locked in.

And then rain disturbed the match again and umpires waited for several minutes to make a decision. At that time, India was on 57 for 0 in 8.4 overs. Well ahead on DLS. But rules do not bend to momentum. The match was abandoned and ended without a winner. Both times shared a point and most importantly, India has now moved to semis with confidence.
