Connolly Shines as Punjab Kings Registers Tight Win Against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026

Punjab Kings registered a tight victory over Gujarat Titans, as Cooper Connolly played a crucial knock to take his team home in a nervy finish. It was a tough contest at New Chandigarh where both teams delivered strong performances, however, the Kings emerged victorious by sealing the chase in the last over.

Batting first, Gujarat Titans started strongly, as their top order fired quick runs to take the advantage of the Powerplay. The captain Shubman Gill built a steady partnership with Jos Buttler to set a platform, but he lost his wicket after scoring 39 runs. After his dismissal, Glenn Phillips came to the crease and played smartly to take the score forward.

The Punjab Kings bowling attack then produced crucial breakthroughs by sending Buttler and Phillips back to the pavilion in quick succession. This was the moment when they broke the Titan’s impetus, as the incoming middle order failed to produce any counterpunch.

As a result, Gujarat Titans didn’t find any momentum, and managed to score just 162 at the end of the first innings. Vijaykumar Vyshak remained the key bowler for Punjab Kings, as he produced a strong spell to halt the scoring rate of the Titans.

Coming out to chase the target, Punjab Kings also endured a terrible start, as Priyansh Arya went back to the pavilion in the 2nd over. His dismissal brought Cooper Connolly to the crease who played a stunning knock to take the Kings forward. He built a strong partnership with Prabhsimran Singh to stabilize the innings, as the Titans bowling attack maintained their discipline.

Prasidh Krishna, Rashid Khan and Washington Sundar then produced stunning breakthroughs to bring the  Gujarat Titans back into the match. Due to losing quick wickets, Punjab Kings lost the momentum, however, Connolly held his nerves to keep the scoreboard ticking.

The Australian youngster then took the Kings home with a brilliant 72 off 44 balls. His remarkable knock allowed PBKS to seal the chase in the last over of the match, securing a narrow 3-wicket win after recovering from a terrible collapse.
