PCB and Franchise Owners Hold Crucial PSL Management Meeting About Upcoming Season

LAHORE: Preparations for the next edition of the Pakistan Super League gathered momentum after officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board and representatives of all eight franchises met in Lahore to assess the league's recent progress and outline priorities for the coming months. The PSL management review successful Season 11 also served as the first major planning session ahead of Season 12.

The meeting was chaired by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and attended by PSL chief executive Salman Naseer, PCB chief financial officer Javed Murtaza, PSL director Usman Wahla, senior manager Hijab Zahid and manager operations Usman Tasleem, along with franchise owners.

Season 12 planning takes shape

A major focus of the discussions was the PSL management meeting about the upcoming season, with stakeholders exchanging views on scheduling, the tournament window and operational planning. The timeline for the next edition is expected to become clearer following the PSL Governing Council meeting, which is scheduled for the end of August.

League officials also agreed to hold a series of workshops before final decisions are taken on player retention, direct signings and playing conditions. Those meetings are expected to shape the framework for the player acquisition process ahead of the new campaign.

Growth Beyond the Field

Participants also reviewed the league's commercial and operational progress during Season 11. Discussions covered broadcasting developments, digital reach, fan engagement initiatives and the standard of cricket across the tournament's 44 matches.

Officials acknowledged the league's expansion following the introduction of two additional franchises and reviewed how the competition was delivered under a revised playing window and limited venues. Further announcements regarding league initiatives are expected at a later stage.

Another proposal approved during the meeting was the launch of an official merchandise platform. The online store, developed jointly by the PSL and its franchises, will provide supporters in Pakistan and overseas with access to licensed products for all eight teams.

The latest round of discussions marks the beginning of the league's off-season planning as organisers shift their attention from reviewing Season 11 to finalising preparations for the next edition.
