Paris Saint-Germain have booked a place in the UEFA Champions League final after beating Bayern Munich in the recent semi-final clash.
The second leg of the semi-final was far less thrilling than the first match in Paris, where Luis Enrique’s side had gone to Munich holding a 5-4 lead.
Harry Kane scored his 55th goal of the season for Bayern in added time, but it did little to ease the disappointment for Vincent Kompany’s side on a tough night.
It was never going to match the excitement of the first leg, but the game was still played at a high level with plenty of chances.
PSG struck early, scoring in the third minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia made a great run and sent in a perfect cross for Ousmane Dembele to finish strongly.
With the crowd fully behind them, Bayern pushed to get back into the tie, but Harry Kane was well controlled for most of the game and the home side found it hard to break through.
Bayern felt they deserved a penalty in the first half when Vitinha’s clearance hit Joao Neves’ arm in the box, but no penalty was given because the ball had come from a team-mate.
After the break, PSG had the better chances. Desire Doue came close a few times, but Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer stood strong and kept them out.
Bayern kept pushing until the end, and Harry Kane came close with a strong late effort, but they could not turn things around.
Bayern’s fans stayed in the stadium after the final whistle to applaud their team, who fought hard but couldn’t knock PSG out of the Champions League.
They can still take some comfort from another Bundesliga title, but had been hoping to reach the UEFA Champions League final by overturning the one-goal deficit.
In the end, PSG were slightly stronger over the two legs. They stayed calm and more organized in the last two matches, which helped them edge past Bayern Munich by just one goal.
