Peshawar Zalmi thrashed Islamabad United by 70 runs, as Babar Azam led the batting show to give his team a confirmed spot in the PSL 2026 final. He struck a breathtaking century in the first innings that allowed Peshawar Zalmi to score a big total of 221 for the loss of 7 wickets.
Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi started the innings strongly, as both Mohammad Haris and Babar Azam played positively. Haris was looking good in today’s match, as he struck quick boundaries in the Powerplay. He got out after scoring 35 off 16 balls, giving Zalmi a strong batting platform.
After his dismissal, Babar Azam built a strong partnership with Kusal Mendis to put further pressure on Islamabad United. Both batters played confidently in the middle overs, showcasing their class and experience to dominate United bowlers.
Kusal Mendis then got out in the 15th over after scoring 41 runs. His dismissal didn’t put much pressure on Babar Azam, as he was well set at the crease. The middle order of Zalmi then faced a sudden collapse, but the captain remained firm at the other end.
Babar then struck his second century of the PSL 2026 on just 59 balls, giving Peshawar Zalmi a strong total of 221 at the end of the first innings.
When Islamabad United came out to bat, they also delivered an aggressive response, as Devon Conway and Sameer Minhas struck quick boundaries in the Powerplay. Michael Bracewell then got the first breakthrough for Zalmi by removing Conway for 20 runs. After his dismissal, Sameer Minhas also lost his wicket for 44, putting double pressure on the United’s batting.
The middle order of Islamabad then collapsed quickly, as no batter showcased any fight on the crease. The bowling lineup of Zalmi deserves credit here, as they remained consistent during the middle overs which put a lot of pressure on Islamabad United.
Imad Wasim tried to counterattack in the later part of the innings, but he was also removed by Mohammad Basit for just 22 runs. As a result, Islamabad United were bowled out for just 151, giving Peshawar Zalmi a big win by 70 runs. Babar Azam was then named Player of the Match, as his breathtaking century helped Zalmi storm into the PSL 2026 final.
