KARACHI: Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan won the toss and elected to bowl first against Peshawar Zalmi.
Under a clear afternoon sky in Karachi, Shadab noted that the pitch could offer lateral movement to the seamers in the opening powerplay. "We want to exploit the conditions early on. The track here tends to settle as the game progresses, and with the potential for evening dew, we feel more comfortable setting a target in sight," the United skipper remarked at the toss.
Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam appeared unperturbed by the result, stating he would have likely opted to bat first regardless to put a "formidable total" on the board. Zalmi’s strategy hinges on their explosive opening duo to negotiate the new ball and set a platform for their power-hitters in the death overs.
Both sides have opted for balanced XI's, with Islamabad bolstering their spin department and Peshawar relying on their raw pace battery.
As the Peshawar Zalmi vs Islamabad United rivalry stands deadlocked in historical head-to-heads, this toss could prove a defining factor in determining who takes the lead in this northern derby.
