Pep Guardiola Confirmed that Rodri Ruled Out of Crucial Burnley Clash with Groin Injury

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will not be available for the upcoming Premier League fixture against Burnley, though the midfielder is not expected to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The match at Turf Moor comes at a key stage of the title race.

Rodri was forced off late in City’s recent win over Arsenal after picking up a groin issue. The Spain international has been central to City’s recent results and played a key role in their push to close the gap at the top of the table.

Speaking ahead of the Burnley game, Guardiola indicated the decision was precautionary.

“I think for tomorrow he will not be ready,” Guardiola said. “We’ll see for next games, the semi-final against Southampton or against Everton.”

Midfield Stability and Upcoming Fixtures

Rodri’s influence has grown following a challenging period affected by injuries, with the midfielder forming a consistent partnership alongside Bernardo Silva. Guardiola highlighted the experience both players bring during decisive stages of the season.

“Both are experienced, they have a huge special personality,” he said. “They are not young guys anymore, experienced guys, but played a lot of this type of games and know how it must be played. They were exceptional.”

City face a congested schedule over the coming days, including an FA Cup semi-final against Southampton, followed by a league trip to Everton after a short break. The gap between fixtures offers the club time to assess Rodri’s recovery.

Title Race Outlook

Victory against Burnley would move City level on points with Arsenal, though both sides remain under pressure with several matches still to play. Guardiola acknowledged the importance of consistency in the closing phase of the campaign.

“Both teams know we cannot lose or drop points,” he said. “It will be difficult to recover and our calendar is so demanding. The opponents are really tough.”

City’s remaining schedule includes away fixtures against Everton and AFC Bournemouth, both of whom are competing for European qualification spots.
