PCB Confirms Auction Date for Two New PSL Teams

PCB Confirms Auction Date for Two New PSL Teams

LAHORE: According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the auction for two new franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will take place on 6 January 2026. The auction is one of the milestones as the league heads into its 11th season.

The PCB, in an official statement, termed the upcoming auction as a “significant milestone” in the growth of the league, and that with two more teams added, commercial prospects will be enhanced and the fans will be more involved in the league across the nation.

The PCB also explained that only those bidders who meet the technical qualifications will be invited to the auction. The shortlist of locations includes the cities of Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit. Winning bidders will then choose their preferred city and team name.

Further underscoring the PSL’s global rise, the PCB added:

“The HBL PSL, now recognised as one of the premier T20 leagues, continues to grow in commercial strength, fan following and overall impact. We look forward to welcoming new stakeholders to the PSL ecosystem.”

The announcement was made following confusion caused by social media posts claiming the new team names had already been decided, with Faisalabad and Gilgit being the favourites.

The PCB promptly rejected such rumours, stating that franchise names will be selected after the auction according to the official protocol outlined in the bid documents.
