Patrick Agyemang will miss the FIFA World Cup 2026 after suffering an Achilles tendon injury, his club Derby County confirmed on Tuesday. The United States forward was forced off during the first half of Derby’s Championship fixture against Stoke City on Monday.
The 25-year-old required a stretcher after going down early in the match, which Derby went on to win 2-0. The club later confirmed the extent of the setback and indicated that the striker would not be available for the upcoming global tournament.
“The club will provide Patrick with the highest level of medical care and rehabilitation throughout his recovery,” Derby said in a statement.
“As a result of this injury, Patrick will unfortunately miss this summer's FIFA World Cup. At this stage it would be wrong to put a timeline on his recovery.”
Agyemang had been part of the United States setup over the past year, making his international debut and contributing six goals in 14 appearances. He was also involved in recent fixtures during the March international window.
His absence comes as head coach Mauricio Pochettino prepares to finalise the squad ahead of the tournament. The USA are scheduled to name their squad by May 30.
The United States will co-host the FIFA World Cup 2026 alongside Canada and Mexico. They have been placed in Group D with Paraguay, Australia and Turkey.
The tournament will begin on June 11, with Mexico facing South Africa at the Azteca Stadium. The USA will open their campaign a day later, while Canada are also set to begin on the same matchday at a different venue.
This edition will follow an expanded format, featuring 48 teams across 12 groups and a total of 104 matches.
